This time around I read Doctor Who and the Pyramids of Mars by Terrance Dicks, adapted from the Doctor Who story The Pyramids of Mars by Stephen Harris.
I rather enjoyed this book. I had seen the television story some The Doctor and Sarah are returning to their home base at the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce when the TARDIS is disrupted /5.
'Pyramids of Mars' has got to be one of the all time Doctor Who great stories, and this novelisation does it justice.
Dicks has understood every nuance of the story perfectly and delivered a pacey, suspenseful thriller. It feels like the author is enjoying himself, especially when he writes about the Doctor/5(7). Directed by Paddy Russell.
With Tom Baker, Elisabeth Sladen, Bernard Archard, Michael Sheard. The Doctor and Sarah are drawn off course and, /10(). The Doctor was never more alien than in Pyramids of Mars, and this comes across thanks to the fluency of the reading. This is one audio book that I have returned to more than once.

All of which means that, as far as Doctor Who and the Pyramids of Mars is concerned, Edwardian Brits are hostile, arrogant, ridiculous, lazy and rude, and that goes a bit beyond ‘a loving poke’ (48). The one exception is Laurence, even as Dicks leaves his material largely unchanged.

vexaxojir. Doctor Who is forty-eight years old today, and one of the series’ finest stories took place one hundred years ago (probably not today). On TV, Pyramids of Mars scared the daylights out of me when I was four as an inexplicable force drew Tom Baker’s Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith to the year to find a sinister priest summoning the awful power of an ancient god; then I grew up pleasurably.

BridgeCam LIVE by CharlevoixCam CharlevoixCam. The plot is complex and consistently interesting and cracks along, let down only by the cliched and unlikely puzzles in the pyramid and the tacked-on deus ex machina resolution.
So there's lots of excellent stuff in Pyramids Of Mars. But the best bit of all is the way it shows the incredible range and depth of the Fourth Doctor's character.

Apparently, Pyramids of Mars was written somewhat on the fly. That’s okay, so was The Talons of if I’m fonder of this Victorian pastiche horror story than that Victorian pastiche horror story, let’s concede that if you are stitching together a Doctor Who story against a deadline, there are worse writers to have on hand than Robert Holmes.
